Dropdown
When to use a dropdown menu, its recommended tone, icon, alignment and grouping conventions, and its replacement package.
Dropdown menu should be used when additional options are available to the user and there is a space constraint.
This package has been deprecated. Use Dropdown v2 instead.
Alternatives
- SelectMenu — For presenting a list of selectable options to a user
DropdownButton is also exported — a chevron-augmented ActionButton for pairing with a manually-controlled menu instead of DropdownMenu's all-in-one API. Like the rest of this package it's deprecated in favour of Dropdown v2.
Guidelines
The text within a dropdown menu should be direct so users can quickly decide on an action.
Provide a tone to help convey the implication of an item's action. Actions that could cause a significant change to the user's data (remove employee, delete pay run, etc.) should use the critical tone.
Provide an icon if it will help clarify the intent of the item's action.
We recommend aligning the menu "right" when the trigger is right-aligned within its container.
Use groups and dividers to separate items into appropriate sections.
